In the late 1950's and early 1960's Nick Mihalopoulos was a graduate student in the school of Pharmacy at the University of Connecticut. During that time he developed a close friendship with two fellow classmates. One of which had ulcerative colitis and eventually went to the Leahy Clinic where he had ileostomy surgery. An unfortunate consequence of his surgery was terrible malodor. In an effort to help with this problem, the team went to the laboratory and after much trial and error, developed what we know today as DEVROM®. They quickly knew they had a unique product that many people needed and the Parthenon Company was born. Getting DEVROM® to market was challenging and it was eventually approved by the FDA as a safe and effective medicine for odor control. Popularity of DEVROM® spread requiring more commitment from the team. Eventually, the two group members left the business to pursue other careers leaving Nick to promote and further develop DEVROM®. The Parthenon moved from the east coast and was incorporated in Utah in 1969 where it remains today.
