Job Description: Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy Services for Caritas Christi, this role is responsible for all activities and services provided by the Department. The incumbent will oversee all pharmacists, technicians, and support staff. This role is responsible for coordinating the procurement, storage, preparation, distribution, compounding, monitoring, control, and dispensing of medications and supplies from the Department. Monitor compliance with purchasing activities related to 340B, Disproportionate Share (DSH), and/or Department of Defense (DOD) participation. Ensure compliance with participation requirements associated with group purchasing organization (GPO) contracts. Serve as a liaison to facility nursing and the medical staff, and as the Manager of Record for the assigned facility based on requirements defined by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy.
Ensure compliance with enacted regulations, laws, rules, and recommendations enacted by both internal and external entities. Educate and communicate the impact of proposed regulatory actions by agencies and governmental bodies related to pharmacy practice and medication management. Formulate a strategy and/or position in response to legal, regulatory, and accreditation actions, and formulate policies and procedures to address regulatory, legal, and safety concerns related to pharmacy practice and medication management.
You will demonstrate proficiency in the use of the various hospital information systems including: A. Report generation and trending utilizing pharmacy information management systems, hospital billing systems, pharmacy automated distribution and control systems, and drug procurement systems B. Evaluation of new features and functionality as they relate to pharmacy information systems and technology upgrades that impact the activities and services associated with pharmacy operations C. Evaluation of new and/or alternative information systems and technology designed to improve pharmacy operations and patient safety
Ensure that adequate controls and standards are maintained in order to safeguard the patient, the care provider, and the employee. Organize adequate staffing and resources to sufficiently ensure that safe medication processes are followed and support the workload and demands placed on the pharmacy operation. Provide justification and develop corrective action plans for variances in the operation, quality control processes, and fiscal performance in the pharmacy operation. Perform other tasks and projects as requested by the Director of Pharmacy Services. Experience and Qualification: - Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree is required - Master’s degree in Hospital Pharmacy or Business Administration is preferred - Must have an active license as a registered pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (or eligibility through reciprocity) - Must possess solid experience in the development of programs focused on achieving positive outcomes in the distribution and use of medications. - A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in hospital pharmacy management or supervision of a pharmacy operation. - Good and varied communication and presentation skills and techniques - A thorough knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and laws pertaining to the various uses of medications in the practice of Pharmacy for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts - Proficiency in the use of various hospital information systems
