Job Description
Major acute care facility in the Boston area with close proximity to Providence, Rhode Island is looking for an administrative leader to work closely with the Director of Pharmacy on all managerial responsibilities. Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy, this position is responsible for the daily activities of the Pharmacy Department to ensure the smooth flow of operations. Also responsible for developing methods to improve existing systems or operations and to implement new services and technologies. As the Assistant Director, you will have your own office and enjoy a Monday to Friday day shift schedule.

The incumbent in this position should have current license as a Pharmacist in the State, Doctor of Pharmacy degree, and at a minimum three years of experience as a Pharmacist in an acute care setting. One to two years of supervisory experience is preferred.

1. Coordinate activities of the Pharmacy Department, ensuring the smooth flow of operations.

2. Conduct studies and research projects to evaluate departmental procedures. Develop and recommend procedures to improve operational efficiency and to implement new services.

3. Participate in the recruitment, orientation, training, and evaluation of employees. Provide ongoing feedback, reinforce positive performance, and take appropriate action to improve performance.

4. Assist with the clinical education activities of students, interns, and pharmacy residents. Respond to inquiries regarding drug therapy from patients, physicians, and other medical staff personnel.

5. Assist in preparation for JCAHO and State Inspections.

6. Maintain the necessary level of professional knowledge and technical proficiency in areas of functional responsibility.

7. Assist in the development, recommendation, and implementation of budgets and departmental policies and procedures. Participate as a member of Pharmacy and hospital committees as appropriate.

8. Assist in development of new policies and procedures for automation and pharmacy information services and supervise implementation.

9. Complete required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
