The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC), in partnership with the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy (COP), has an exciting opportunity for clinical practice in ambulatory care.
Responsibilities include providing pharmaceutical care to patients in the Internal Medicine, Pharmacotherapy Evaluation, Anticoagulation and Medicine Specialty Clinics;
providing leadership and mentoring to Primary Care Residents; and precepting Primary Care and Pharmacy Practice Residents. Responsibilities with the College of Pharmacy include precepting Pharm.D. students on rotation in the various ambulatory clinics; providing didactic lectures in Therapeutics courses; and participation in Professional Practice Laboratory courses. Scholarly and research activities are expected, as well as participation in interdisciplinary committees and quality improvement initiatives. This position is funded 75% by UIHC and 25% by the COP. UIHC is one of the nation’s leading healthcare facilities.
The Department of Pharmaceutical Care has a staff of 100 pharmacists and 120 support personnel.
They provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to acute and ambulatory patients supported by a network of seven satellites, a central pharmacy and centralized sterile products preparation area and three ambulatory pharmacies.
Drug distribution is highly automated in both the inpatient drug and ambulatory setting.
The department has active medication use evaluation and outcomes management programs, serves as a primary teaching site for the
College of Pharmacy, and has a large residency program.

The Division of Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy has 34 full time faculty and over two hundred adjunct faculty. The Division supports the clinical teaching mission of the Doctor of Pharmacy program, offers graduate degree programs in pharmaceutical socioeconomics and clinical sciences, offers fellowship and residency education and training programs, and maintains active research programs in a number of areas including cardiology, infectious disease and psychiatry.
Applicants with Doctor of Pharmacy degree or clinically oriented Master’s Degree will be given preference. Completion of an ASHP accredited Primary Care Residency or two years experience in the specialized area is necessary. Eligibility for pharmacist licensure in Iowa is required. Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy is also desirable.
