JOB SUMMARY: Prepares intravenous and oral chemotherapy medications for oncology patients and coordinates care with the physicians and nursing staff. Makes members/patients and their needs a primary focus of one's actions; develops and sustains productive member/patient relationships. Actively seeks information to understand member/patient circumstances, problems, expectations, and needs. Builds rapport and cooperative relationship with members/patients. Considers how actions or plans will affect members; responds quickly to meet member/patient needs and resolves problems.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Currently licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Colorado. One year experience as a Registered Pharmacist which included counseling patients regarding appropriate use of medications and educating providers regarding medication use and selection, and directing the work of pharmacy support staff. One year work experience strongly preferred in the areas of IV preparation and aseptic technique. One year work experience, within the last 3 years, strongly preferred in the preparation and handling of chemotherapy medications and monitoring chemotherapy patients. The Oncology Pharmacist Position includes working under guidelines provided by the Clinical Oncology Specialist to assess and monitor Growth Factor Service patients, manage antiemetic therapy following chemotherapy and pain management. Must be willing to work at the Rock Creek Medical Office Oncology Clinic in Lafayette, Co., as well as the Midtown Oncology Clinic on the Franklin Campus. Demonstrated customer service skills, customer focus abilities and the ability to understand Kaiser Permanente customer needs.
Must demonstrate drug therapy monitoring and pharmaceutical care skills, including knowledge of current chemotherapy regimens, dosing recommendations, and supportive care for chemotherapy patients. Must also demonstrate problem solving ability and effective oral and written communication skills with patients, providers and co-workers. Must possess extensive clinical pharmacy knowledge, motivation to seek continuing education, and a basic understanding of personal computers. Must authorize a D.E.A. drug screening.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares, procures, packages, stores and distributes intravenous and oral chemotherapy medications for oncology patients within established procedures and legal requirements, using Class II - Vertical Flow Clean Air Hood. Documents responsibility by signing prescriptions and other forms.
Reviews physician orders and provides drug information when needed.
Monitors oncology patients' drug therapy and lab test results to detect adverse drug reactions and to obtain optimum therapeutic results. Confers with medical staff provider and suggests changes in drug therapy, drug utilization or therapy monitoring methods as appropriate.
Counsels patient or family members regarding their medications as required.
Orders and maintains drug supply, equipment inventories for the delivery of oncology chemotherapy service. Ensures that work area and equipment are clean and organized for a safe working environment. Performs biological and hazardous waste disposal procedures according to and consistent with standard procedures.
Maintains records of drugs and controlled substances as required by federal and state law, maintains records pertinent to the purchase and control of narcotics and alcohol, following established procedures, regulations and statutes.
Accepts the responsibility for resolving operational problems, in the absence of, or as assigned by, supervision, such as resolving professional problems related to the interpretation of prescriptions, drug furnishing irregularities, service complaints and technical problems such as equipment needs and drug procurement, etc., according to established policies and procedures.
Keeps abreast of current drug information as it relates to chemotherapy agents, their uses, dosages and inherent side effects.
Performs other pharmacist duties as required.
COMPLIANCE LANGUAGE: Supports compliance and Kaiser Permanent's Code of Conduct by adhering to federal and state laws and regulations, accreditation and license requirements, by policies and procedures. Responds appropriately to observed fraud and abuse.

SCHEDULE: Variable days/hours; Mon-Fri 7am-7pm, Sat 7am-5pm, Sun 8am-5pm; Rotating schedule; Holidays/weekends/nights; Floats between depts/locs/facs
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $49.20-$52.21 (Hourly)
