Job Description
The Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. This role has responsibility for:
Replenishing medications in emergency crash carts or floor stock areas\
Preparing intravenous admixtures or other sterile preparations (including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition) accurately
Delivering medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately per established schedule
Rotating stock to insure use before expiration date
Entering medication orders into pharmacy computer system accurately
Entering charges and credits for patient medication accurately
Completing and documenting all assigned medication storage area inspections at least monthly
Identifying and replacing outdated and unusable drugs
Maintaining current technician certification
Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
College courses desirable but not required
May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.)
Requires walking and standing for long periods of time (4 to 8 hours)
Must be punctual and dependable; reports to work as scheduled
Maintains neat and professional well groomed appearance
Works cooperatively with staff
Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and employee information
