MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Perform the following duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist.
a.Prepare sterile medication including IV syringe pumps, parenteral nutrition solutions, large volume parenterals and inhalations.
b.Fill physician orders for inpatients and prescriptions for outpatients and Cincinnati Children's employees.
c.Compound non-sterile pharmaceutical preparations such as hand-made capsules suspensions and topical preparations.
2.Respect patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations. Review timeliness, accuracy, availability and security of information.
3.Perform routine procedures within respective discipline, including the collection and analysis of data which will affect decisions regarding patient care.
4.Comply with policies and procedures governing the prescribing, ordering, preparation and dispensing of medication as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations.
5.Develop knowledge and professional skills through cross-training, literature and attendance at department meetings.
6.Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussions.
7.Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees, patients and families. Attend required Cincinnati Children's training sessions, including radiation safety, laboratory safety, bloodborne pathogens and OSHA. Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures.
8.Participate in establishing job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level of competency.
9.Understands, adheres to and models Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within the department/unit.
10.Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Effective verbal, written, interpersonal and telephone communication skills. Ability to relate to diverse age and demographic backgrounds. Demonstrate high clerical accuracy and attention to detail. Computer literate and working knowledge of software applications (word processing, spreadsheet and database). Demonstrate diplomacy, tact and a professional demeanor. Knowledge of Medical and Scientific terminology required.
EDUCATION\WORK EXPERIENCE: Must be accepted into an accredited College of Pharmacy with completion of pre-pharmacy course work required. Pharmacy Intern's license to practice in the State of Ohio must be obtained within probationary period and maintained continuously while working as an intern.
